The Perfect 7-Day Honeymoon in Bali

Seven days is the right amount of time for a Bali honeymoon.

Long enough to slow down properly, feel the place rather than photograph it, and have two or three mornings where neither of you looks at a phone until the coffee is finished.

This itinerary is built around Ubud and Viceroy Bali. For a honeymoon that prioritises privacy, natural beauty, and unhurried time together, Ubud offers a depth of experience that is difficult to find elsewhere on the island.

Why Viceroy Bali

Viceroy Bali sits above the Valley of the Kings, 10 to 15 minutes by car from central Ubud, where the Petanu River gorge drops away below the ridge. Forty private pool villas facing the valley. Three dining venues. Akoya Spa, with three dedicated couples treatment rooms alongside a cold plunge and sauna. Holder of One Michelin Key awarded in 2025, recognised as number 8 Best Resort in Indonesia by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025, and named Best Luxury Honeymoon Resort Worldwide at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2024.

Every villa has a private heated pool. In Ubud’s highland climate, this matters more than it sounds. In the morning, the mist over the gorge and the silence of the valley are yours entirely.

Day 1: Arrival

An elegant fine dining restaurant featuring black and white checkered floors, crisp white tablecloths, tropical indoor plants, and a massive illuminated wine cellar, offering a romantic dinner setting for a 7 day bali honeymoon.

Ngurah Rai International Airport is in Denpasar. The drive to Viceroy Bali takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by private transfer. Arrange this through the property before arrival at res@viceroybali.com.

Let the first afternoon be slow. The villa terrace, the heated pool, the valley below. Order from in-villa dining if you prefer not to move.

For dinner, book Apéritif Restaurant. Under Belgian Executive Chef Nic Vanderbeeken, the kitchen blends Spice Island flavours with modern European cuisine across a multi-course tasting menu. The Art Deco dining room, the pre-dinner drinks at the bar, and the wine cellar make the evening feel like a genuine occasion. The dress code is smart-to-formal. Book before arrival at res@aperitif.com. Apéritif does not take walk-ins.

Day 2: Akoya Spa, Pinstripe Bar, CasCades Restaurant

A couple enjoying a relaxing side-by-side massage from two therapists in a luxurious spa room with a large flower petal bath, a perfect rejuvenating activity for a 7 day bali honeymoon.

Begin the morning with an in-villa breakfast before heading to Akoya Spa for a couples treatment. Three dedicated couples treatment rooms offer a genuinely shared space, not two solo massages in adjacent rooms. The treatment blends the age-old wisdom of Balinese healing traditions with modern Western science. Many treatments are also available in the privacy of your own villa. Follow with the cold plunge and sauna.

The afternoon belongs to the villa. The evening begins at Pinstripe Bar, Viceroy Bali’s hidden speakeasy decorated in marble, dark wood, and bronze, above the Valley of the Kings. The cocktail menu, called The Clairvoyant, is inspired by Miguel Covarrubias. Dinner at CasCades Restaurant and order the Royal Balinese Rijsttafel, a nine-course tasting of traditional Indonesian cuisine.

Day 3: Ubud Town and Culture

Performers with raised hands surrounding a central fire during a traditional Balinese Kecak dance at night, a captivating cultural experience to include in a 7 day bali honeymoon.

Leave by 7 am for the Campuhan Ridge Walk, around 2 to 3 kilometres through open grassland and jungle. Mid-morning, visit the Ubud Traditional Art Market and Puri Saren Agung, the Ubud Royal Palace. In the afternoon, arrange a car for Tegallalang Rice Terraces, about 15 minutes north of town. In the evening, the Kecak fire dance at the royal palace courtyard is a deeply memorable cultural experience in Bali. Tickets are available at the entrance on the day. Arrive 30 minutes early.

Day 4: Temple Circuit

Arrange a private driver for a full day. Goa Gajah, the ninth-century Elephant Cave, is most atmospheric before 9 am. Tirta Empul, one of Bali’s sacred water temples, is 15 kilometres north of Ubud. Visitors are welcome to observe or participate in the spring-fed purification pools. A sarong is required at all temples and available to borrow at the entrance. Stop at a traditional coffee plantation on the return.

In the evening, ask the guest services team to arrange a private candlelit dinner at Apéritif Restaurant. Contact res@viceroybali.com in advance.

Day 5: Mount Batur Sunrise and Rest

The sunrise hike up Mount Batur begins at 2 am and reaches the 1,717-metre summit by dawn, with views across Lake Batur and toward Mount Agung. Arrange through the property at least two days in advance. The afternoon is for rest. The main infinity pool, the villa terrace, or a return visit to Akoya Spa.

Day 6: Day Trip to East Bali

Arrange a full-day private car. Tirta Gangga Water Palace, a former royal water palace about 1.5 hours east of Ubud, is among the least crowded of Bali’s significant sites. The drive passes through dramatic rice terrace landscapes worth stopping for. Besakih Temple, on the slopes of Mount Agung, is Bali’s most sacred temple complex. Allow at least two hours.

Return in time for a final dinner at Apéritif Restaurant if you did not visit on Day 5.

Day 7: Final Morning and Departure

Do not check out early. A final in-villa breakfast. The valley in the morning. The mist clearing. If your flight is in the evening, ask about a late checkout. A shorter treatment at Akoya Spa is a good way to use the last few hours. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the transfer back to the airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 7 days enough for a honeymoon in Bali?

Seven days is a natural fit for a honeymoon based in Ubud. Long enough to slow down properly and cover the main experiences without rushing. Couples who stay five nights often wish they had booked more time.

Is Ubud or Seminyak better for a honeymoon?

Ubud suits couples who prioritise privacy, seclusion, and natural beauty. Seminyak suits couples who want beach access and a more social atmosphere. The two offer genuinely different experiences rather than one being better than the other.

Do I need to book restaurants in advance?

Apéritif Restaurant should be booked before arrival. CasCades Restaurant and Pinstripe Bar are more flexible, but booking in advance is advisable to allow the team to personalise the experience.

Can Viceroy Bali arrange honeymoon extras?

The guest services team can arrange private terrace dinners, in-villa floral setups, couples spa bookings, and personalised touches throughout the stay. Contact res@viceroybali.com before arrival. The earlier you reach out, the more the team can prepare.

What is the best time of year for a honeymoon in Bali?

June sits at the top of the list for most couples: dry season is fully established, the weather is warm and stable, and the island is quieter than July and August. May and September offer similar conditions with slightly lower rates. For couples who want absolute peak conditions and do not mind the crowds, July and August offer the most consistent conditions of the dry season.
