Bali Temple Celebrations & Religious Dates in April

Scented offerings to the Gods are a mesmerising daily ritual carried out by Balinese at the family home's temple and work place. Even more colourful and spectacular are the temple processions during important Hindu festival days.

In April there are several village temples holding anniversary celebrations.

A short travel from Ubud is Batuan village in Sukawati, which celebrates the anniversary of the Pura Puseh & Pura Desa on April 17. For a grander procession that happens on the same day, head to Pura Manik Mas at the Besakih temple complex.

April 17 is also Tumpek Uduh or Tumpek Bubuh on the Balinese calendar, a day dedicated to Sanghyang Sangkara, the deity of crops, and where ceremonial rites for abundant and good crops will be carried out.

The busiest day of April is the 28th, which is also a full-moon night. Many Balinese will don their best traditional attire for the day, and most will be busy with temple festivities.

Mark these dates on your calendars to ensure you experience this integral part of Balinese life.
